 Bloom Taxonomy | Cognitive Domain for Teacher excellency || Effective Learning



In Bloom’s taxonomy, the word, “Taxonomy” is used for a system of classification according

to natural relationships among instructional objectives. Developing instructional objectives based

on this taxonomy help students to develop their learning from simple to complex levels. This

taxonomy has been a useful and one of the effective resources for teachers to develop objectives

at various levels of learning. Determining the levels of questions in line with the levels of learning will enable the

instructors to use appropriate strategies in teaching processes. Resultantly, this will increase the

learning and ensure the achievement of learning/instructional objectives


The goal of an educator using Bloom’s taxonomy is to encourage higher-order thought in their students by building up from lower-level cognitive skills.

Behavioral and cognitive learning outcomes are given to highlight how Bloom’s taxonomy can be incorporated into larger-scale educational goals or guidelines.


Today’s teachers must make tough decisions about how to spend their classroom time. Clear alignment of educational objectives with local, state, and national standards is a necessity.

Knowledge

This is the most basic and foundation level of cognitive domain and learning process. The

learning objectives at this level focus on the psychological processes of remembering

this level demands that the learners must comprehend the recalled information or situation, as information are useless if these are not understood. This is the level where learners

need to organize their recalled information and use these information to build complete concepts

and generalizations.

At this level students are needed to know the abstraction level deep and strong enough to reflect on that they have complete mastery over the first two levels 


Analysis

As the name of this level shows, the learned material or concepts are broken down into their integral elements in such a way that the relative hierarchy of ideas and their

relationships with respect to the integral parts are expressed and made explicit.

Synthesis

This level describes the higher level of complexity in which the creation of something that is

new to its creator takes place. This level shows how elements and parts are put together to form a

new thing/concept as a whole

Evaluation

This is the final and last level of learning process and complexity because evaluation is based

on all the above mentioned levels of cognitive domain. In the process of evaluation, judgments

about the value of material and methods or concepts for given purposes are described.
